News has broken that beloved actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.

A Major Comeback for the Franchise

The actors will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. It is believed their cameos will likely occur in a future-set scene, as the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.

This signifies the sixth film in the global Hunger Games franchise.

Exploring the New Story

Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series.

The Storyline and Fresh Faces

The film's narrative are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The film welcomes several accomplished actors in pivotal roles:

• Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
