Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group features Teor (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could help the team access places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
