Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Major Control Tower IT Issue
Passenger services have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport following a major air traffic control outage grounded all flights.
All aircraft movements were halted because of an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.
Several flyers reported being stuck in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.
Operations Restart with Residual Impact
The airport confirmed at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".
That said, considerable delays are likely to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with numerous other services experiencing delays.
An airport representative had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.
"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the current status on their specific flights," officials reiterated.
Root of the Disruption
Officials linked the full ground stop to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.
Flyers are still being urged to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport as knock-on effects are cleared.
